This group is one of the most enjoyable jazz compositional improv quartets that I've heard in a while. Featuring the joyfulness and beauty of the voices of clarinets and saxophones, they proceed to unfold melodies, songs, and excursions of pure instrumental delight. Not your usual jazz, bass and drums rhythm section, Donati and Gasperoni combine to create layerings of color and accentuals that help give a scenic and breathtaking backdrop to the musings of the melodic lines. A definite old world background is evident, but the offering is truly contemporary. Tight woodwind heads can frequently verge on comic. The groove is sweet and never overpowering.
