What better place for a World Wide Wedding than in the shadow of the Carpathian Mountains - here where the 12-strong Gypsy brass band Fanfare Ciocarlia serve up a fantastic Musica Tziganeasca. Nowhere in Eastern Europe is there such a clash of western and eastern musical traditions as there is in Romania. In this land of myths and legends, music still occupies an important place in everyday life. A wedding or any other celebration without musicians would be simply unthinkable there. This masterful Romany Brass Band from Moldavian Zece Prajani (Ten Fields) in Northeastern Romania uphold the traditions of their forefathers. The musicians of Fanfare Ciocarlia between 22 to 68 years old mix up all the required Romanian, Turkish, Macedonian, Serbian and Oriental dances.The clarinetist Ioan Ivancea says proudly: We are one of the last ensembles of our kind where we come from - and we are the fastest of them all! Also Baro Biao engaged East European melodies with oriental rhythms and celebrates this unique, high-spirited brass music.
