Sonny Stitt - "Legends of Acid Jazz"
Legends of Acid Jazz
Eward ‚Sonny' Stitt (1942-82) was one of the most formidable saxophonists of his generation - and one of the most frequently recorded. The Boston-born alto and tenor master appeared in many different musical contexts, but these two long-unavailable albums from 1971 are perhaps the most unusual in his extensive discography. They`re back-to-the-blues affairs in which Stitt`s frequently double-timed, always urgent bebop lines rip with blistering authority over the riveting funk of organist Leon Spencer, guitarist Melvin Sparks, and drummer Idris Muhammad. These are Sonny Stitt`s essential acid-jazz recordings.
