Description
The music of the Scots is renowned. Developed over centuries, Scotland's folk has retained its individuality until today. Its roots can be found in the Celtic rather than in the Anglo-Saxon tradition, and the sounds are closely related to those of Scotland's neighbour, Ireland. England, cradle of rock & pop music, has also had considerable influence on today's Scottish music scene. Since the mid-nineties, a growing number of young bands are shaking the dust off of Gaelic folk to give it a more contemporary sound. Bagpipe, violin and flute melodies with lyrics sung in the exotic sounding Gaelic language are paired with modern dance beats or jazz, funk and pop, creating emotionally moving, danceable tracks, music that pays respect to tradition but shines in a new and unknown light. This CD presents a wide spectrum of modern Scottish music and shows different artists' approach to their musical heritage.
