The attempt to give a short general survey on the various Sundanese musical genres must fail inevitably, because of the amount of variety. The indonesian government has not yet tried to develop a systematical documentation of Sundanese music. In opposition to Balinese and in accordance with middle Javanese music, Sundanese music has basically a higher degree of 'freedom' in melodic embellishments and melodic development.
